preparing and base coating furniture with Annie Sloan Chalk
Paint, and how to mix a limited color palette that works
harmoniously. Examples of adapting designs for furniture, making
delicious color palettes from fabric swatches, and composing

creating effective shadow and line work with surprisingly few
colors and brushstrokes. Water based casein paints will be used
for the hand painted ornament. Furniture finishing, waxing and
patinas will be covered.
Shiva casein paints from
Jack Richeson and Co.
are used to execute the hand painted decoration. These paints
are ideal for one-stroke decorative work because they are
smooth, flowing and very opaque. The natural binder, casein,
makes it easy to achieve a soft antique effect. Shiva paints
come in a full artist's palette range of colours.

decorative techniques with gilding. We will use a combination of
traditional materials like gesso, bole, and casein paint with
modern materials like acrylic gold size, acrylic paints and
glazes. The combination of old and new techniques allows us to
obtain rich effects within modern time restraints. The teacher
